The warmer months are also a very popular time for visitors to Furano. Large numbers of local and international tourists make the most of the beautiful summer conditions to take advantage of the many attractions that form part of this central area of Hokkaido.

One of the prominent summer attractions are the stunning flower fields with their variegated bright colours. Furano is particularly famous for its Lavender and the many products derived from it.

Highland Furano

Summer allows much greater possibilities for exploring and hiking the forest trails, the 230 000 hectare National Park and its volcano’s or even the slopes right nearby. Mountain biking, rafting and kayaking the river rapids, fishing the lakes or streams or spectacular hot air ballooning are all part of the more active summer pursuits.

If taking in the cultural side is of interest there are local Museums devoted to Art, Photography and the famous “From the Northern Country” TV drama including the actual property and house featured in the series. Local crafts such as weaving, pottery and glass making can be found close by and if sampling the local rural produce is to your taste then there are cheese, jam and grape juice factories.

The fine weather and conditions make touring the wider surroundings very appealing on day trips. It’s also common to see small groups of motorbike riders on large road bikes enjoying the touring conditions.
